Back in March 2015, we went to Spain our friend David Kent of Great Glen Wildlife to hunt for Iberian Lynx, the most endangered mammal in Europe.  We had 3 days to find these illusive animals - we saw them on all three days.  We met some people who have searched for them for years without success so we appreciate how fortunate we were.

On our first evening, we had a fleeting glimpse of a disappearing animal but enough to get an idea of size, etc.  On the second day, we had long distance views of one for quite a long time.

But, on our last day, which happened to be my Birthday, we had amazing views of a young pregnant female.  When we saw her leaving the vehicle track onto a path through the scrub, we leaped out of the minivan to see if we could get a better view without disturbing her.

Amazingly, her path ran parallel to the vehicle track so we followed her, on foot, for several minutes.   At times, her path came within about 5 metres of us.  Yet, it seemed that she had no interest in us at all however much we stumbled, whispered, coughed and clicked cameras at her.  At one stage, she stopped for a pee.  She then sat down and pondered for quite a long time.

By the end of our privileged experience, it had got really dark.  Thank goodness for my fantastic camera and lens.
